Arrest a dog? Arrest a protester? No problem.
Yesterday I missed the protest against the ongoing construction works over the territory of the National Park Rila. Today, as I was looking on the reports of different people that were there and took pictures I saw the protest. It turns out that flash mobs may be the only real form of protest that actually get the attention of the Bulgarian society, the media and eventually the government.
I say eventually because there are upcoming elections for local government bodies. In such times every single politician, no matter left, center or right, looks for popular support at any cause. Well, ok – that’s their business, that’s what politicians do. However, they should remember in the first place that it is us, the people of this country, of this city (speaking of Sofia city) that put them into power. And statements of the current Sofia mayor that contradict with each other, depending on the time when he says something (e.g. first he invited the eco-activists to a meeting and shows some support for that cause because at that time it’s „popular“ to do so and after that he casts upon such flash mobs protests). Why? Elections. Dirty business. Such kind of acts kind of shifts people’s electoral choice, right gentlemen politicians?
Speaking of shifting opinions and making choices, I want to ask what did this man, especially his dogs do to get arrested?
The police proves itself as an organization that is very scary and powerful againt eco-protesters, but hardly manages to control much more violent and dangerous situations as the one that happened a week ago or so the Sofia neighborhood of Krasna Polyana. True – it’s much more easier to strike fear in innocent dogs rather than in militant people with cold weapons in their hands. I can understand that. Moreover, it much more spectacular to arrest not threatening people in front of the TV cameras and make some PR from that.
Ladies and gentlemen, we closing the elections time. Remember that no matter which position I hold – of the one being elected or the one doing the vote. Think twice and then once again what you do because it is of the things that people do in that country that will result in bettering or worsening of the situation in Bulgaria.
Let’s hope that the first it be! Amen!
