I’m a happy man today. And a conscientious citizen of my country too! Yesterday I finally manage to pay my taxes. You might say that this is not a big deal – at the end everyone has to pay his taxes – but trying to pay the taxes via the new e-system of the Bulgarian tax administration and succeeding in doing so is kind of an achievement.
Yesterday, after waiting at the bank office for a whole hour to put some money in my bank card I went back to office happy, with the thought that a few mouse clicks and I’ll be done with this. Yeap, but not quite. The whole procedure of registration, authorization, going through the actual process of filling out the data and finally paying took me about 1/2 hour. The system that the tax administration has deployed is definitely user-friendly. The explanations that were placed next to the zillion boxes I had to fill out told me nothing. Absolutely nothing. Thanks God it was Didi, the accountant at the office, to explain which each box meant so that I fill in the right ones.
It’s good that the government of Bulgaria is finally stepping on the track of going towards an e-government and e-services to its citizens. However, if such services are to be in place and actually work, they got to be made for the people to use! Because not everyone in this country has a BA or MA in Accounting!
